The construction contract for the MNC Lido City theme park in Indonesia has been awarded to China Jingye.

The theme park is part of a 2,000-hectare leisure, entertainment and lifestyle development near Bogor, Indonesia from MNC Land.

MNC Land signed a framework deal with China Jingye, a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned construction firm Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC), in June 2016.

A description of the theme park on the MNC Land website states: “At the heart of the resort will be the nation’s premiere world-class theme park, where you can embark on an enchanting journey into a world of magic and adventure with your favourite characters from MNC’s hit animated TV programmes and movies.

“Explore a series of intricately themed storylands and discover the exhilaration of flight, the adventure of the mountains, the wonders of an enchanted forest, and much more. The park promises endless fun for young and old, from edge-of-your-seat thrills on a high-speed roller coaster that races up and down the cliffs to a captivating cirque show for the whole family, as well as the chance to meet popular MNC characters such as Kiko and Zak Storm.”

The park will also offer accommodation as well as a retail, dining and entertainment district.

The rest of MNC Lido City, will include an 80-hectare residential development as well as the Trump International Resort, featuring a range of hotels, golf courses, restaurants and retail options.

The Agence France-Press, reported that the theme park will be backed by $500m of loans from the Chinese government, as part of the Belt and Road initiative.  At a time when the US and China are involved in trade negotiations, this alleged link to Trump International attracted media attention.

Following these reports, MNC released a statement to Blooloop saying:

“On the 7th May 2018, MNC Land awarded a contract for the construction of the theme park at MNC Lido City to China Jingye of the MCC Group. There is no relationship between this signing and the financing for the theme park, and reports that a loan agreement has been signed are false. The theme park project is wholly owned by MNC Land and has no relationship to the Trump Organization. MNC Land’s relationship with the Trump Organization consists of management agreements that were signed in 2015 for luxury hospitality and residential projects owned by MNC Land at MNC Lido City and MNC Bali Resort. MNC Lido City is an integrated lifestyle and resort destination wholly owned by MNC Land with a land bank of over 2,000 hectares.”
