New Disney attractions announced at D23

Walt Disney Imagineering is working to transform Dinoland U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom into a new land featuring attractions inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones.

At this weekend’s Destination D23 event, Disney parks chairman Josh D’Amaro and Disney Imagineering’s chief creative officer Bruce Vaughn unveiled some of new experiences planned for Florida’s Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and California’s Disneyland.

Animal Kingdom will have a new land based on a region referred to as tropical Americas. As part of their research, Imagineers are looking at some of the planet’s most biodiverse areas.

The park’s current Dinosaur ride already uses the same ride vehicle and has the same path as the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction at Disneyland. Also at Animal Kingdom, there will be a new Zootopia-themed show at the Tree of Life theatre.

Over at Magic Kingdom, Disney is adding a new show called Country Bear Musical Jamboree for next year. Additionally, the Hatbox Ghost will debut inside the park’s Haunted Mansion in late November. Imagineering is also working on a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge in Adventureland.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios (and Disneyland and Disneyland Paris), Ahsoka will become part of the Star Tours attraction from next spring. The original series, Star Wars: Ahsoka, is currently streaming on Disney+.

As for Disneyland, Disney California Adventure has unveiled a new “world-jumping vehicle” for the next attraction at Avengers Campus.

“Over the next decade, we’re going to have more projects underway than at any point in our history. Our sole purpose is to give you more and more of what you love about a Disney experience. And then surprise and delight you with things you never dreamed possible,” D’Amaro said.

“We are planning to invest billions of dollars in our destinations around the world.”
