In a new blog post, D23 wrote about Disney movies and TV series that will come out this year, attractions that will open in Disney theme parks, and anniversary celebrations that will take place.
Avengers Campus in California to open in 2021
The Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure was originally scheduled to open in July 2020. However, this opening was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, D23 has confirmed that it will open in 2021, although there is no exact opening date yet. Construction on the campus resumed in August 2020.
Avengers Campus will feature WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, the first Disney ride-through attraction featuring Spider-Man. Guests will sling webs and collect Spider-Bots as they put themselves into Spider-Man’s shoes.
At the Pym Test Kitchen, guests will be able to enjoy food from Pym Technologies, who have experimented with growing and shrinking food.
The immersive expansion to Disneyland California Adventure will also feature Marvel characters like Black Widow, Ant-Man, Iron Man and more.
D23 also confirmed that the recently reimagined Snow White’s Enchanted Wish ride is ready to open when Disneyland Resort reopens.
New attractions to open in EPCOT
At Walt Disney World in EPCOT, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will open in 2021 in the French pavilion. This attraction sees guests shrink down to the size of a rat and join Remy in an adventure around Gusteay’s restaurant.
The new nighttime show Harmonious will also start in 2021. The show was originally meant to debut in 2020, however, this was pushed back. It will be Disney’s largest nighttime spectacular, and will feature floating set pieces in the World Showcase lagoon.
There is still no opening date for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction or the TRON Lightcycle at Walt Disney World.
Disneyland Paris updates
The first Disney hotel dedicated to Marvel is set to open at Disneyland Paris. Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will feature one of the largest publically viewable collections of Marvel art in the world.
A new Cars attraction is also set to open in Walt Disney Studios Park as the Studio Tram Tour is reimagined to become the new Cars Route 66 Road Trip attraction.
2021 anniversaries
2021 is an important year for many Disney Parks. It is the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in October. Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney District will celebrate their 20th anniversaries in January.
June sees the 5th anniversary of Shanghai Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland began its 15th-anniversary celebrations as the Castle of Magical Dreams opened in 2020. It will continue the celebrations into 2021.
No details have been released about how the theme parks will celebrate these milestones.
Disney is set to use robots in its theme parks in several new ways in the future, from soft-body robots to a stuntronic acrobat robot Spider-Man.
