Journey of Water allows visitors to play with magical, living water

Journey of Water, Epcot’s new Moana-themed walk-through attraction, has officially opened to visitors at Walt Disney World in Florida.

The self-guided, tropical-themed experience is the first Disney parks attraction inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Moana.

Guests can explore a landscaped walking trail based on the film, with popular characters such as Heihei and Pua carved in the rock formations.

Located in the park’s World Nature neighbourhood, Journey of Water allows visitors to play with magical, living water, which has a playful personality of its own.

Guests can choose between a wet or dry path, and as they walk along the lush trails, they will encounter Te Fiti, who is protecting the water as it travels through the water cycle.

The launch coincided with the Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary on 16 October. In addition to the new offering, visitors can meet Moana in a new area of World Nature.

Journey of Water is part of a multi-year transformation of Epcot. It joins new experiences at the park such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

In more news, Disney Cruise Line‘s new ship, the Disney Treasure, will feature an original Broadway-style show based on Moana.

The production will follow Moana “as she embarks on an incredible journey to save her island after she is chosen by the ocean to restore the heart of Te Fiti”, Disney said.

It will include characters such as Gramma Tala, Maui and Tamatoa, as well as songs from the film’s soundtrack.

Last month, Disney announced plans to spend $60 billion on its parks, experiences and products division over the next 10 years to turbocharge growth.

“We have a wealth of untapped stories to bring to life across our business,” said Disney parks chairman Josh D’Amaro.
