“This is an SOS from Nova Corps, our outpost on Earth’s Epcot is in danger!”

Walt Disney World has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Epcot’s first-ever roller coaster, is opening on 27 May.

Disney has also released a trailer for the family-friendly coaster experience. In the video, a Nova Corps officer exclaims: “This is an SOS from Nova Corps, our outpost on Earth’s Epcot is in danger!”

Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, can be seen relaxing in the M-Ship cockpit alongside Rocket and Groot, who hears the distress call. “Help the galaxy, before it’s too late,” the Nova Corps officer says.

“It’s save the galaxy time, again,” Rocket says. Before the clip ends, the ride’s Starjumper vehicles can be seen flying through space.

Cosmic Rewind, which features the first reverse launch for a Disney coaster, is part of the ongoing transformation of Epcot. It will be one of the world’s longest indoor coasters.

Earlier this week, Disney unveiled the attraction’s ‘Galaxarium’, a planetarium-style space that showcases “planets, stars and other wonders that connect Earth and Xandar”.

Imagineering’s Walt Disney World site portfolio executive, Zach Riddley, described it “as a planetarium-like exhibition where guests will first be introduced to Xandar”.

“I cannot wait for guests to experience this space for themselves, and all that awaits beyond – including some wonderful nods to Epcot history that I know our favorite Epcot fans will enjoy,” Riddley said.

Meanwhile, Disney has revealed that character greetings and interactions will be returning to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California as early as 18 April.
