Disney is yet to provide a launch date for TRON Lightcycle Run, but it’s likely to open in 2022.

Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the new TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster, currently under construction at Magic Kingdom in Florida.

Disney’s new video shows the attraction’s first full-speed test run, with Imagineering teasing on Instagram: “Vehicle in motion. Please stand clear.”

Disney is yet to confirm an opening date for TRON Lightcycle Run, but it’s likely to launch in 2022. It will be the fastest Vekoma roller coaster at Magic Kingdom.

Shanghai Disneyland features a similar attraction, called Tron Lightcycle Power Run, which debuted on the park’s opening day in 2016.

“I’ve had the chance to ride our sister attraction in Shanghai Disneyland and I can tell you we are in for an amazing new addition to the Walt Disney World coaster family,” said Imagineering‘s Disney World site portfolio executive Zach Riddley.

Magic Kingdom’s new roller coaster

TRON Lightcycle Run is located in Tomorrowland. Riders will board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for a race through the ‘digital frontier’.

“It finishes a loop of over 3,000 feet of track and over 120 pieces,” said Walt Disney Imagineering project coordinator Scott Pratt.

“The guests are going to feel exhilaration and they are going to come off wanting to ride it over and over again.”

Epcot is also set to open its first coaster this year, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Ahead of the launch on 27 May, Disney has released a new trailer unveiling the ride experience.

The company has reported earnings for the second quarter of 2022. Its parks, experiences and products segment saw revenues more than double to $6.7bn compared to the prior-year quarter.
