Opening at Disney World on 27 May, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first roller coaster at Epcot.

Disney and Marvel have released a new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, unveiling the ride experience and some of the featured characters.

Opening at Walt Disney World Resort on 27 May, Cosmic Rewind will be the first roller coaster at Epcot. It also boasts the first reverse launch for a Disney coaster.

Ahead of the upcoming launch, Disney has shared a new video that reveals some of the ride experience, as well as characters Rocket and Groot, and Eson – the attraction’s Celestial antagonist.

Developed by Walt Disney Imagineers, the ‘story coaster’ rotates 360 degrees throughout the experience. It is one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world.

Riders will join Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot on a mission to stop Eson, described by Disney as ‘huge, powerful and ancient’.

Guardians of the Galaxy coaster opens in May 2022

Earlier this month, Disney unveiled the ride’s queue, also known as the ‘Galaxarium’, which Imagineering’s Walt Disney World site portfolio executive Zach Riddley described as “a planetarium-like exhibition where guests will first be introduced to Xandar”.

“I cannot wait for guests to experience this space for themselves, and all that awaits beyond – including some wonderful nods to Epcot history that I know our favorite Epcot fans will enjoy,” he added.

In another trailer for Cosmic Rewind, a Nova Corps officer exclaims: “This is an SOS from Nova Corps, our outpost on Earth’s Epcot is in danger!”

“It’s save the galaxy time, again,” says Rocket.

Last week, the Florida Senate passed a bill that would dissolve Walt Disney World’s special district in the state, which allows the Walt Disney Company to self-govern in its theme park area.

However, the Reedy Creek Improvement District has responded, saying the state is responsible for the district’s $1 billion bond debt (via NBC News).
