Efteling will begin its anniversary celebrations in February, with the park featuring birthday decorations and daily parties.

Efteling, the fairytale theme park in the Netherlands, is celebrating its 70th anniversary next year, kicking off with the opening of two new attractions, Sirocco and Archipel, on January 1, 2022.

Efteling is transforming the existing Reizenrijk area of the park into the World of Sindbad. The park’s Adventure Maze and Monsieur Cannibale attractions are being turned into Archipel and Sirocco, joining indoor roller coaster Vogel Rok.

Archipel is an adventure island attraction where young guests can play and discover, and Sirocco is a merchant’s boat experience in which visitors attempt to evade a whirlpool at sea.

After launching its new offerings, Efteling will start its anniversary celebrations in February. The park will feature birthday decorations and will host parties from 4pm daily.

In addition, a pop-up fairytale will appear on the Speelweide playing field from April through October. The Langnek character in Fairytale Forest will also be wearing a party hat.

Opened in 1952 with 10 installations in the Fairytale Forest, Efteling has grown to become a world-class theme park, welcoming millions of visitors and adding thrilling coasters, family-friendly attractions and accommodation offerings.

Dutch authorities recently approved plans for the park’s ‘World of Efteling 2030’ expansion. “The fact that the development plan is now definitive makes me very proud,” said Fons Jurgens, CEO of Efteling.

“For us, it really feels like the first giant step towards the future that we have in mind for the World of Efteling that we have in mind,” Jurgens added.
