Genting Malaysia revealed that the health and safety of guests, staff and the local community are a priority due to the pandemic.

Genting Malaysia has confirmed that “preparations are underway” for the launch of Genting SkyWorlds, an $800 million outdoor theme park at Resorts World Genting (RWG).

The company also revealed that the health and safety of guests, staff and the local community are a priority due to the pandemic, The Edge Markets reports. Genting Malaysia did not specify when the attraction will open.

Affin Hwang Investment Bank expects Genting SkyWorlds to launch in the first quarter of 2022. However, analyst Ng Chi Hoong said the park “would be operating at a loss” due to social distancing amid Covid-19.

“As the park would be operating at a capped capacity below its 20,000 visitors/day capacity due to social distancing requirement, the park would be operating at a loss, based on our forecast,” Ng said. “As such, the impact from the increased overall visitation might be limited, but it would help raise the average spend per visitation.”

Genting Malaysia reportedly planned to open Genting SkyWorlds by the end of 2021 after starting technical rehearsals in November. “For the much-awaited Genting SkyWorlds theme park launch, management appears to be targeting end-2021,” Nomura analysts said.

“Note that the theme park’s attractions are already open for preview for employees and invited guests to gather feedback to iron out any operational kinks,” Nomura added.

Genting SkyWorlds will feature 26 rides and attractions across 26 acres, from roller coasters to water rides. There will be nine themed lands inspired by original intellectual property (IP) and 20th Century Studios brands.
