Genting Malaysia reveals plans to drive traffic to Resorts World Genting (RWG).

Genting Malaysia has revealed plans to commission three new attractions for its Genting SkyWorlds theme park in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The company outlined the plans to drive traffic to Resorts World Genting (RWG) in its corporate presentation for investor events in September 2022.

Genting Malaysia will expand the Genting SkyWorlds theme park and “ramp up” operations at RWG “whilst capitalising on demand for integrated resort offerings” (via Inside Asian Gaming). It will also invest in “targeted events and promotions… to drive leisure traffic”.

In its presentation, Genting Malaysia said RWG attracted 9.9 million guests in the first half of 2022, compared to 2.1 million people in the first half of last year.

Genting Malaysia’s investment plans

“[We plan to] leverage existing assets to attract foreign and domestic visitations,” the company said (via the Edge Markets). “Genting Malaysia is well diversified geographically. Malaysia is the group’s largest revenue contributor.”

Genting SkyWorlds, which opened in February, occupies 26 acres of land and is home to 26 rides and attractions. The $800 million park’s nine themed lands are based on original IP and 20th Century Studios brands.

“We are very confident that when the pandemic is over, attractions and resorts like ours will be a necessity for a lot of people. Particularly while the borders remain closed,” Greg Pearn, RWG’s VP and head of theme park operations, told Blooloop last year.

Elsewhere, Genting Singapore’s $4.5 billion expansion of Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) started earlier this year with Universal Studios Singapore breaking ground on its new Minion Land.

The first phase of Genting Singapore’s RWS 2.0 development project also includes expanding the S.E.A. Aquarium, which will become the Singapore Oceanarium.
