Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park wins accolade

Legacy Entertainment, a leading theme park and resort design company, is celebrating its involvement in an award-winning large scale theme park development.

Chinese developer Haichang’s flagship property, Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, has been showcased as a leading venue at this year’s China Cultural Tourism Innovation and Development Forum. At last month’s ceremony, the park was named “2021’s Most Popular Attraction”. It also received awards for its leadership and Social Responsibility initiatives at the Langfang, China conference.

The $730 million USD park was designed by Legacy Entertainment, a Hollywood, US-based firm celebrating a $1 billion project landmark and its 20th anniversary this year. The 73-acre marine life destination has been a consistent performer since it debuted in 2018, attracting over 3 million visitors a year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park has received a range of accolades in recent years, such as “Outstanding Themed Land Park”, “Outstanding Family Entertainment Center” and “Outstanding Social Media Famous Tourist Attraction” in the 2020 Golden Crown Awards.

The project had previously been named “Best Theme Park” by the Chinese Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (CAAPA), the largest industry representative of its type for the country.

Legacy Entertainment president and chief creative officer Taylor Jeffs says “There are few things more challenging to build and operate well than a marine-life theme park. The continued recognition of the Haichang team will hopefully serve as an inspiration to owners and operators all around the world.”

More projects nearing completion

Two more brand new aquarium complexes will open this year, also designed by Legacy Entertainment;

Located in Zhuhai, China, Chimelong Marine Science Park will serve as a “second gate” for the popular Chimelong Ocean Kingdom park adjacent to the site. With over 500,000 square metres of inside space, the park will become the world’s largest indoor theme park when it opens.

Legacy has also made a large contribution to the firm’s first Vietnamese project, the “Sea Shell aquarium” located within the recently opened VinWonders Theme Park on Phu Quoc Island. In what will become the country’s largest aquarium, the huge turtle-shaped facility also aims to set improved standards for animal husbandry in the region.

Legacy Entertainment recently announced it will be working on the PIK 2 future city project, one of Asia’s most extensive development projects.
