Lego Galaxy would replace the park’s existing ‘driving school’ attractions

Legoland California has unveiled plans for a new land called Lego Galaxy with an indoor space-themed roller coaster, set to open in 2025.

The plans were revealed at a Carlsbad planning commission meeting last week, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The commission has recommended approval of the project.

Lego Galaxy would replace the park’s existing ‘driving school’ attractions, with these to move to another area of Legoland California where the Funtown Fire Academy is located.

“The current proposal includes moving Driving School to the Funtown Fire Academy location, but I can’t speak to whether or not Funtown Fire Academy would be brought back at a different location in the future or not,” said Legoland spokesperson Julie Estrada.

The staff report for the project says the new area “will have a ‘space’ theme where park guests will train for space exploration, meet other intergalactic travelers, and blast off on missions into the Lego Galaxy”.

Supporting documents for the plans describe a coaster where riders embark on “an exploration mission into the uncharted Lego Galaxy in their own customized Lego spacecraft”. The new coaster will be situated in a “space port”-themed building.

Lego Galaxy would also include a spinning ride, a children’s play area themed to an alien spaceship and a separate play area for toddlers.

Legoland California has also confirmed it will open a new land called Dino Valley in spring of this year to mark its 25th anniversary.

Dino Valley is replacing the current Explorer Island land and includes two new rides – Explorer River Quest and Duplo Little Dino Trail. These will join the existing Coastersaurus.

Additionally, the theme park is preparing to launch the first parade in its history, called Lego World, in the summer.
