Martin & Vleminckx, a leader in the design, manufacture, fabrication, and installation of traditional wooden roller coasters, has installed its newest family thrill wooden rollercoaster, Leviathan, which opened to guests earlier this month in Australia.
The new Sea World Gold Coast attraction is the first wooden coaster in the world to include four crossover sections. New custom theming is designed to represent a sea creature rising from the depths of New Atlantis, and opened to guests on Friday 2 December. The coaster has a top speed of 85km/h, a height of more than 32 metres, and a total length of about a kilometre of wooden track.
“An outstanding job”
The New Atlantis precinct, according to Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby, is a paradigm changer for Sea World, with three world-class rides complemented by exceptional ride theming and engaging visitor experiences.
“I am incredibly proud and excited to officially open the Leviathan at Sea World, our team and the ride manufacturer, Martin & Vleminckx have done an outstanding job in creating this truly unique ride experience,” says Kirby.
“Leviathan is a spectacular experience with guests embarking on a journey from the moment they enter the precinct passing by an enormous nine-metre Atlantean warrior statue to enter the ride queue which features incredible theming and state-of-the-art technology to fully-immerse them in an underwater utopian before they brave the 909-metre long wooden coaster.”
Intense experience
Leviathan, designed in collaboration with The Gravity Group, is the latest milestone for producer and installer Martin & Vleminckx. The roller coaster train uniquely has the last vehicle facing backwards for those seeking a more intense experience, providing tourists with a thrill unlike any other in Australia.
Senior Vice President of Martin & Vleminckx, Chuck Bingham, says: “This is not your average amusement park ride. Leviathan is an intense and thrilling experience from start to finish. With its combination of speed, height and twists, we know it will appeal to riders young and old alike.”
Martin & Vleminckx recently announced the appointment of Nathan Jones as president, with previous president Pierre Cloutier taking on the role of CEO.
