Hong Kong’s Lai Sun Group has announced the official opening of Novotown, an integrated resort (IR) and entertainment hub on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, China. Novotown combines state-of-the-art entertainment with world-class leisure experiences.

Novotown’s key attractions, Lionsgate Entertainment World and National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, opened in July and September.

Speaking at the IR’s opening ceremony, Larry Leung, managing director of Novotown, said it looks to deliver “innovative entertainment and leisure experiences” and provide residents of Zhuhai and Macau with “a state-of-the-art entertainment destination unlike any other”.

“With world-class themed entertainment facilities, Novotown will not only offer more choices for a short getaway within the ‘one-hour lifestyle circle’, but also help to create a ‘one trip, multi-stop’ tourism model within the Greater Bay Area,” added Leung.

Lionsgate Entertainment World is one of China’s most technologically-advanced theme parks, using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in its rides and attractions.

The interactive destination boasts more than 50 key attractions based on Lionsgate’s film franchises, including The Hunger Games and the Twilight Saga.

Also at Novotown is the first National Geographic Ultimate Explorer centre in Southern China. The family-friendly educational attraction includes 13 breathtaking experiences, merging content from the National Geographic brand with immersive entertainment.

In addition, Novotown is home to various retail and dining brands, as well as the Hyatt Regency Hengqin hotel.
