Pokémon is opening a new theme park called PokéPark Kanto within the Yomiuriland amusement park in Tokyo.
The Pokémon Company, Yomiuri Land Co., and the Yomiuri Shimbun will form a new company, PokéPark Kanto LLC, to build the Pokémon-themed entertainment destination in Tokyo’s largest amusement park.
PokéPark Kanto, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun, will be a theme park featuring Pokémon experiences and events in a natural environment.
Yomiuriland and the Pokémon Company previously collaborated on a nature-driven experience called Pokémon Wonder where visitors search for hidden Pokémon.
Situated on 48,000 square feet of untouched forest behind Yomiuriland, Pokémon Wonder featured two courses of creatures made from items such as leaves and acorns.
The new park is named after Japan’s Kanto region, where Yomiuriland is located. Additionally, the 1996 Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video games are set in a fictional area named the Kanto region.
“We will create a space where Pokémon fans from all over the world can gather in this area rich in nature, experience Pokémon, and have fun together, transcending national, regional, and language barriers,” says a press release.
Pokémon LBE collaborations
Earlier this year, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum launched a Pokémon collaboration. The institution later announced that a limited edition Pokémon trading card was no longer being offered for safety and security reasons.
Universal Studios Japan has also partnered with the Pokémon brand, first on the new ‘No Limit!’ parade, which launched in March.
“The incredible team at USJ have the creative vision and leading expertise in world-class theme park technology to imagine a uniquely Pokémon experience,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of the Pokémon Company.
