Puy du Fou begins a period of public engagement this week

Puy du Fou‘s plans for a £300 million UK theme park near Bicester in Oxfordshire have been addressed by Cherwell District Council.

Last year, Puy du Fou started looking for its first UK site within a 40-mile radius of Oxford. The company recently said it plans to build the new attraction in Cherwell and is set to begin a period of public engagement this week.

In a new statement to the Oxford Mail, Cherwell District Council said: “We are aware that Puy du Fou is consulting with local communities as they prepare their plans.

“We wait with interest to see what proposals emerge; they will of course need to be submitted to us for consideration through the planning process.

“We encourage residents to take the opportunity to engage with the promoters to hear more and provide their input.”

In the UK, Puy du Fou said it “wants to create a new British cultural and historical attraction”.

Its vision is as follows: “A British Puy du Fou will be a place where visitors can walk in a beautiful wooded park with stunning landscaped gardens, where they can immerse themselves in British history with carefully curated period villages; and where they can experience a series of world-class live shows based on the country’s history, which will amaze the whole family.”

New British historical attraction

Currently, Puy du Fou has two permanent locations – in Les Epesses in the Pays de la Loire region of western France and Toledo, Spain. In place of coasters and rides, its parks offer spectacular shows, immersive experiences and period villages.

In May, Puy du Fou opened its first attraction in China, called Saga City of Light. In addition, the group is creating a new show about Cherokee history in Sevier County, Tennessee – its first entry into the US market.
