Superman: Escape from Krypton is permanently closed at Magic Mountain

Six Flags Magic Mountain has closed one of its DC attractions as Six Flags Great Adventure opens a new one.

Beginning with the closure at Magic Mountain, the Superman: Escape from Krypton Intamin shuttle coaster has permanently shut down.

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s president Jeff Harris told the Orange County Register: “Just like other roller coasters within the theme park industry, there’s a life cycle with these coasters.”

He added, “It’s just reached a point in time where we need to make a wise decision on where we really should reinvest funds that improve the guest experience the most.

“It just doesn’t make a lot of sense from a business perspective to put it back into Superman.”

Lex Luther: Drop of Doom, which is attached to the coaster tower, will remain in operation.

As for what Magic Mountain plans to do with the retired coaster, Harris added: “It’s too early to disclose what we’re going to do with the actual track, cars, queue, building structure and everything else that comes with the attraction.

“That’s yet to be determined, but we’re working through what that potentially could look like for the future.”

The Flash arrives at Six Flags Great Adventure

With Superman: Escape from Krypton, Magic Mountain will offer 19 coasters, which is still more than any other theme park in the world.

“We’re still the reigning park when it comes to the quantity and variety of roller coasters,” Harris said.

Across the country at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, DC fans can enjoy a new coaster called The Flash: Vertical Velocity.

The ride features forward and backward launches, four intense inversions, 10 airtime moments, and a top speed of 60 mph across 1,430 feet of track.

The combination of these exhilarating elements makes Vertical Velocity the first “super boomerang” coaster in the US, according to a press release.

“The Flash: Vertical Velocity is the perfect addition to our world-class lineup of roller coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure,” said Brian Bacica, park president.

He added, “This high-energy ride delivers everything coaster fans are looking for — forward and backward launches, inversions, and an adrenaline rush that even The Flash himself would approve of.”
