More overseas guests are visiting Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea

Oriental Land Company (OLC) has reported rising visitor numbers at Tokyo Disney Resort in its latest financial results.

Attendance for the first six months of Oriental Land Company’s fiscal year increased by nearly 40 percent from the prior-year period to 12.5 million visitors. OLC also said 1.63 million visitors (13 percent) came from outside of Japan.

The increase in attendance at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea is due to the resort’s 40th anniversary events, as well as a rise in the number of overseas guests. OLC also put the growth down to sales of limited-period tickets and relaxed attendance limits.

Additionally, Oriental Land Company predicts that 26.3 million people will visit the resort during the current fiscal year, which ends on 31 March 2024. According to OLC, around 9 percent of these (or 1.2 million) will be overseas guests.

Before releasing its financial results, Oriental Land Company announced an opening date for the Fantasy Springs expansion at Tokyo DisneySea.

The park’s eighth themed port will launch on 6 June 2024 with three areas inspired by Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan, as well as the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel.

Highlights include new boat rides called Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey and Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, and the Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure and Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies attractions.

Tokyo Disney expansion

Before that, the company’s new chairman and CEO Yumiko Takano revealed plans to expand Tokyo Disney Resort further.

“We believe there are still various possibilities when it comes to expansion,” Takano said (via Nikkei Asia).

She added, “We are going to work on developing attractions and entertainment for Tokyo Disney Resort as a whole.”

Over at Tokyo Disneyland, Oriental Land Company has started building the new Space Mountain roller coaster in Tomorrowland, which is due open in 2027.
