Guests will soon be immersed in “the adventures of beloved animated characters“.

Universal Orlando Resort is closing five attractions in the KidZone area of Universal Studios Florida to make room for “new family entertainment” inspired by “beloved animated characters”.

In a post on Twitter, the resort said it will “soon begin work on bringing exciting new family entertainment to Universal Studios Florida that will immerse guests in the adventures of beloved animated characters”.

Universal Orlando is shutting Fievel’s Playland, Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Curious George Goes to Town, DreamWorks Destination and Shrek and Donkey’s Meet & Greet on 16 January 2023.

“The E.T. Adventure, Animal Actors on Location!, SpongeBob StorePants – including meet and greets with SpongeBob SquarePants and friends – and KidZone Pizza Company will remain open for guests to enjoy,” said Universal Orlando.

New attractions based on animated characters

More information about the new attractions and experiences will be revealed in the coming months.

Last week, Comcast reported earnings for the third quarter of this year, revealing strong performances in the theme parks division of NBCUniversal as investments pay off.

“We’re seeing clear evidence that the investments we made throughout the pandemic continue to pay off,” said Brian Roberts, Comcast chairman and CEO.

“We launched Super Nintendo World in Japan, the VelociCoaster in Orlando, Secret Life of Pets in Hollywood and our drumbeat of innovation goes on. For example, Super Nintendo World will open in Hollywood early next year,” he added.

“We’re adding another Nintendo-themed area, Donkey Kong to Japan in 2024.

“And I’m especially excited for Epic Universe to open in the summer of 2025, which will transform Universal Orlando into a weeklong destination.”
