Universal Parks & Resorts is also rebranding to become Universal Destinations & Experiences.

Universal’s new family-friendly theme park resort in Texas has been given the green light by Fresco’s city council.

On 7 March, Frisco’s Planning & Zoning Commission approved a special-use permit (SUP) for the park, which was also approved by the council, as was a development agreement.

“We’re excited to welcome Universal to our community and look forward to Frisco families making unforgettable park memories right here at home,” said Jeff Cheney, the mayor of Frisco.

Located on 97 acres of land, Universal’s upcoming attraction will create around 175 full-time jobs and 1,400 seasonal, part-time roles.

The park will primarily operate between 10am and 6pm on weekdays, with exceptions allowed during holidays, special events and peak periods, as outlined in the SUP.

The development agreement notes at least four immersive themed lands, and a 300-room hotel with a resort-style swimming pool.

“We also want to thank our residents who made time to share their feedback about the project,” Cheney added.

“Their thoughtful engagement helped shape the agreement we have today which, we believe, is even better than initially proposed.

“We also appreciate Universal’s measured approach and willingness to work with neighbors to develop a plan everyone can be proud of.”

Additionally, the council has approved $12.7 million in financial incentives for the project, on the condition that it is open by 30 June 2026.

“The benefits of partnering with another quality, iconic brand such as Universal Parks & Resorts, are endless,” said Cheney.

In more news, Universal Parks & Resorts – a division of Comcast NBCUniversal – is rebranding to become Universal Destinations & Experiences.

The name change comes after the company announced two new concepts – the park in Texas, and a year-round horror attraction in Las Vegas inspired by Halloween Horror Nights.

“We are thrilled to expand how we bring the Universal brand to life in new, immersive and compelling ways for fans around the world using our rich collection of stories, characters and franchises,” said Mark Woodbury, the chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences.
