Warner Bros. Movie World in Queensland, Australia has started testing its new Wizard of Oz-themed roller coaster, Kansas Twister.
The upcoming ride is part of the park’s new Wizard of Oz land – the world’s first. Kansas Twister is a Family Boomerang Racer coaster by Vekoma Rides, the Dutch roller coaster specialist.
It has two racing tracks of 225 and 220 metres long, a top speed of 58 km/h, and a top height of 22 metres.
In addition to Kansas Twister, the new land includes a suspended coaster called ‘Flight of the Wicked Witch’. This offers a top speed of 67 km/h, a top height of 19 metres, and a 454-metre-long track.
The land also features immersive theming, including a recreation of the 1939 film’s Yellow Brick Road.
Pico Play, a global leader in the planning, design, development and construction of world-class themed attractions and entertainment, is working with Warner Bros. Movie World on its new precinct.
“Movie World fans in Australia will get to step into Oz like no fan has done before,” said Peter van Roden, senior vice president of global themed entertainment at Warner Bros. Discovery, in 2022.
“A first of its kind, the Wizard of Oz land will extend the storytelling and bring of one of the most iconic and beloved films to life in an amazing way,” he added.
New coaster and land to open this year
“We are over the moon (or should we say rainbow) to be bringing Oz to guests of Movie World in 2024.”
Last month, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new division for all of its location-based experiences, including theme parks, touring exhibitions, retail destinations and studio tours.
The Wizard of Oz land at Warner Bros. Movie World, operated by Village Roadshow, is due to open in December.
