Warner Bros. Movie World in Queensland, Australia has opened the world’s first Wizard of Oz-themed land.
The multimillion-dollar land features two new family-friendly coasters, named Kansas Twister and Flight of the Wicked Witch.
The former is a Family Boomerang Racer coaster by Vekoma Rides, the Dutch roller coaster specialist. It boasts a top speed of 58 km/h, and a top height of 22 metres.
Flight of the Wicked Witch is a suspended coaster offering a top speed of 67 km/h, a top height of 19 metres, and a 454-metre-long track.
Clark Kirby, chief executive of Village Roadshow, which operates Warner Bros. Movie World, told the Gold Coast Bulletin: “The Wizard of Oz precinct is like nothing we have ever done at Movie World where incredible theming and technology complements the physical ride elements to provide a unique and immersive guest experience.
“We have worked closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences to make this one of the most immersive and beautifully themed precincts in any Australian theme park and we can’t wait for our guests to experience it.”
New coasters and immersive theming
As above, the land features immersive theming, including a recreation of the 1939 film’s Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy’s farmhouse, and Munchkinland. Of course, guests can see Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion around the precinct.
Pico Play, a global leader in the planning, design, development and construction of world-class themed attractions and entertainment, worked with Warner Bros. Movie World on the new precinct.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new division for all of its location-based experiences, including theme parks, touring exhibitions, retail destinations and studio tours.
