Therme Manchester, Therme Group's new water park and wellness resort in the UK, has revealed it is reducing waste and keeping materials in circulation via 3D printing technologies.

As well as signing up to the new Circularity in Practice initiative, Therme Manchester has shared more about its use of a large-scale 3D printer as part of a joint venture with Fab.Pub, a specialist in 3D fabrication.

Through the collaboration, Therme Manchester will repurpose materials and transform them into "precise architectural forms", Therme Group said in a press release.

This approach will be deployed extensively at Therme Manchester, with the technology also able to produce elements such as furniture, plant pots and recreational features.

The system also enables materials to be reprocessed and remade into new products at the end of their useful life, meaning they will remain in a continuous local manufacturing cycle.

So, items produced through the Fab.Pub process are collected, shredded into raw material, and reused instead of being discarded.

David Russell, CEO of Therme Group UK, said: "Circularity has to move beyond theory and into delivery.

"We are demonstrating how waste materials can be transformed, reused and kept in continuous circulation at scale – supporting UK manufacturing while reducing emissions and resource demand."

Via Therme's statement, the system "reduces waste, limits demand for virgin resources and lowers embodied carbon while supporting regional manufacturing capability".

Construction is underway on Therme Manchester, which will feature swimming and thermal bathing areas, spa and fitness zones, immersive art, sustainable gardens, and a range of restaurants and cafes.

Earlier this year, Therme announced two new leadership appointments for its UK wellness resort expansion, with Jonathan Lingham joining as chief commercial officer and Alison Gray as chief people officer.
