Waterparks: World Waterpark Association Mid-Season Attendance Update

News

The WWA recently conducted three early- to mid-season attendance surveys in order to better gauge how the industry is doing in relation to the economic downturn and other challenges. For those member parks that responded, the results indicate that weather has hurt some operators during the first two months of the season.

For those respondents who indicated that their attendance numbers are down, the majority credited heavy rain and unseasonably cool temperatures as the reason. In contrast, the respondents who indicated that their attendance numbers are up credited positive economic factors, such as “staycations, ” and aggressive marketing and discounting with helping to bring numbers up. The other area in which the economic downturn has played a role in lowering attendance is in corporate outings and group sales.
