Tivoli Gardens, a historic amusement park in Copenhagen, Denmark, has unveiled its new Hikari area ahead of the opening tomorrow (15 August).
The park's new zone covers an area of more than 2,000 square metres and is inspired by a colourful Japanese streetscape.
Opening on Tivoli’s 183rd birthday, the Hikari project represents the largest themed development in Tivoli Gardens' nearly 200-year history.

"We have been looking forward to this year’s anniversary with particular excitement, as we can finally give our visitors a birthday gift that has been five years in the making," said Tivoli Gardens' CEO Susanne Mørch Koch.
"With Hikari, we have drawn inspiration from Japan to create something distinctly Tivoli – an immersive new area where attractions, architecture, gardens, art and food come together, including two brand-new attractions.
"Opening Hikari on our anniversary marks an exciting new chapter in Tivoli Gardens’ long history and reflects our ambition to keep evolving and creating world-class experiences for visitors from Denmark and around the world."
As above, Hikari features atmospheric lighting, landscaped gardens, unique architecture, street food concepts, Japanese art, and immersive design elements.
It includes two new attractions, a family-friendly immersive experience called Hotel Hikari and a thrill ride named Typhoon's Eye.
At the heart of Hikari is The Demon, one of Tivoli Gardens' iconic roller coasters, which has undergone an extensive visual transformation.

Over the past two years, Tivoli's former Asia-inspired area has been completely redeveloped to become Hikari.
Rasmus Altenborg, Tivoli Gardens’ design and development director, told blooloop: "We went to Japan to get inspiration, and we cooperated with Danish, but also Japanese designers and architects, to ensure that what we did was correct."
Founded in 1843 by Georg Carstensen, Tivoli Gardens is one of the world’s oldest amusement parks and one of Copenhagen’s most iconic cultural landmarks.
