Universal Volcano Bay water park to go cashless

Cash-to-card kiosks will be available at the park

Universal Orlando's Volcano Bay water park is transitioning to a cashless payment system.

The move to cashless operations will come into effect on 25 February, when guests will only be able to pay with credit or debit cards, Universal Pay, Universal gift cards, or tap-to-pay methods.

Visitors with cash will need to use cash-to-card kiosks to load money onto a Visa prepaid card, which works inside the water park and anywhere major credit or debit cards are accepted.

Guests will still be able to use cash elsewhere at Universal Orlando Resort, including Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe.

Checkout-free and cashless experiences are on the rise in the attractions industry, with some parks adopting RFID wristband systems for payments and access, mobile wallet ticketing and self-service kiosks.

Six Flags parks have transitioned to fully cashless operations, and some Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water parks have been equipped with RFID-based cashless systems via the SixPay programme.

This was developed in partnership with Connect&GO, a leading global provider of integrated technology and RFID solutions for the attractions industry.

SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, SeaWorld San Diego and SeaWorld San Antonio are also cashless, with the parks accepting credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Visa prepaid cards.

Volcano Bay opened in 2017. The 25-acre water park contains more than 30 slides and attractions, from a hydro-magnetic waterslide coaster to a multi-directional wave pool.

The water park will begin a seasonal closure on 26 October, with a planned reopening on or before 24 March 2027.
