Atlantis, The Palm, home to the Atlantis Aquaventure water park, celebrated World Oceans Day (8 June) following $500,000 worth of green investments over the past year.
Since launching its environmental sustainability platform the Atlas Project last year, Atlantis Dubai has invested half a million dollars in green initiatives. The resort is attempting to reduce waste and emissions.
Atlantis has installed food waste reduction technology Winnow AI. This has resulted in more than 450,000kg of mixed materials being recycled, reducing the destination’s total waste to landfill by more than 95 percent annually.
Additionally, 100 sustainable dishes are now available on menus across the resort. To date, Atlantis has sold 38,751 sustainable dishes. The most popular are Bread Street Kitchen’s Uns Farm Caesar salad, WHITE Beach’s burrata, and The Shore’s fish tacos.
“We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the results of Atlantis Atlas Project one year on, which reflects the dedication and persistence demonstrated by the entire Atlantis team,” said Tim Kelly, managing director and executive VP of Atlantis Dubai.
“Our investment of half a million US dollars over the past year is testament to our commitment to making positive change and improvements to our operation, as well as implementing conservation and education programmes both in-resort and within the region.”
Atlantis Dubai is also constructing an on-site water purification and bottling plant, which will remove 2.7 million plastic bottles every year from the operation. The resort has pledged to eliminate all single-use plastic bottles by the end of 2023.
Through its Atlantis Atlas Project, the resort is aiming to be a leader in responsible tourism. The project focuses on responsible operations, conservation and animal welfare, education and awareness, and corporate social responsibility.

“Whilst we are conscious that we still have a way to go in our mission to become the Middle East’s champion for responsible and sustainable tourism, we are incredibly pleased to share the many examples of positive change we have made in just 12 months and we collectively look forward to ramping up our efforts over the coming year,” Kelly said.
Opened in September 2008, Atlantis, The Palm is an ocean-themed resort offering marine and entertainment attractions, including the 22-hectare Atlantis Aquaventure water park.
Atlantis Aquaventure, also found in the Bahamas and China, uses 23.5 million litres of fresh water to power 105 waterslides and aquatic attractions.
