Project will be the firm’s inaugural installation at a mixed-use lagoon community

EpicSurf, a new stationary surf experience from the water park experts at Aquatic Development Group (ADG), has revealed its inaugural EpicSurf installation at a mixed-use lagoon community will be at Leander Springs in Texas.

Leander Springs is a $1bn mixed-use development, spanning 78 acres, including a 4-acre lagoon which sits at the heart of an extensive commercial area.

The project was announced at the VIP launch of the Surf Park Summit tradeshow event in San Diego.

Authentic beach experience

As the demand for beachfront residences increases, Leander Springs will deliver the coveted beach lifestyle to its residents and visitors.

The lagoon will provide Leander with an authentic beach experience, with sunbathing next to clear water for entertainment and activities. Inland surfing is one of the key activities that will be available.

EpicSurf is a fixed deep-water wave that offers an authentic surfing experience which is suitable for visitors of all levels of experience and skill.  The revolutionary EpicSurf surf system, created in the United States, offers a small footprint and produces waves in deep water that can be adjusted from 3-5 feet in height to suit the needs of every surfer. Real surfboards with fins can be used by surfers to hone their carving, stunts, and surfing skills.

Bruce Quay, COO of Aquatic Development Group & EpicSurf, says: “We are honored that EpicSurf has been chosen as the surf wave technology for the Leander Springs project in Texas. EpicSurf will be the perfect feature to complement the lagoon and associated amenities offered in this mixed-use development. With the ability to tailor the wave to all of the residents – for surf lessons, expert level sessions or even for the spectators who just want to get up close to the excitement, EpicSurf provides an experience for everyone.”

Expanding access

The 2022 award for Democratising Access to Surf was given to EpicSurf at the Surf Park Summit tradeshow last year for expanding access to authentic surfing. It has also been selected as a finalist for the Sustainability & Positive Impact category this year. EpicSurf is the first surf wave technology to be accredited by the IBCCES as an accredited Autism Resource.

The programme of activities and engagement features that surround the lagoon were developed by ICON Leisure, a major collaborator in the project which brought in EpicSurf as the supplier for the surf wave technology.

Brian Stovall, managing partner of ICON Leisure, says: “I have worked on many lagoon and surf park projects over the past decade, and this one is particularly exciting because of its fantastic location in the Texas Hill Country. ICON Leisure is proud to work alongside this team to provide operational design consulting and management for Leander Springs.”

Leander Springs will provide office space, retail space, restaurants, 1,600 multifamily residential units, a 400-room hotel, and a 20,000-square-foot conference centre in addition to the attractions and amenities.

Troy Hill, Leander Mayor, comments: “This dynamic mixed-use development is a game changer for our community. Leander Springs has a phased approach that will bring in much needed commercial development at the beginning of the project while incorporating residential uses in a proportional manner.”

EpicSurf announced its EPIC Promise earlier this year, which sets out the firm’s values and commitment towards sustainability.
