Oceana is being rebuilt and is due to open in two years

Swedish amusement park Liseberg has unveiled a new design for its Oceana water park after a huge fire broke out at the attraction in February.

The blaze on 12 February engulfed the new water park’s outdoor slides and other facilities under construction, eyewitnesses and rescue services said. One person died and 16 others were injured.

Liseberg is rebuilding the water park and has now finished the demolition and clean-up work. The park expects to open its aquatic attraction in around two years.

In February 2025, Liseberg will start putting the water park’s new glulam beams into place. After this, it will start installing the water attractions in the pools.

“Among other things, we have opted to invest in new technology for the slides, to make them more fire retardant,” said Liseberg’s CEO Andreas Andersen.

“We are also using this as an opportunity to opt for a lighter colour for the attraction tower, to ensure it fits in better with the surrounding cityscape.”

When it debuts, Oceana will offer an indoor bathing area of almost 6,000 square metres, and 4,000 square metres of outdoor bathing.

The water park‘s total indoor area will be 13,600 square metres, and it will include 14 attractions, from a lazy river to a wave pool. It will also house dining outlets and a shop.

“Rounding off 2024 with such positive news is a great way to end the year. Oceana will be a key and highly-anticipated addition to Gothenburg’s already wide variety of experiences, strengthening the appeal of the region,” said Liseberg’s board chairman Kurt Eliasson.

Oceana was originally due to open in summer 2024. The decision to rebuild it was made after Liseberg cleared the site and carried out extensive investigations.

In more news, Liseberg is set to open a new family thrill ride called ‘Kraftverket’ next year.
