MAT Filtration Technologies, a manufacturer of high-efficiency water filtration equipment and provider of engineering services, has announced that it provided the complete ALSS (Animal Life Support Systems) scope for the New Mazatlán Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Latin America, located on the coast of Sinaloa in Mexico.
The new aquarium, dedicated to the Sea of Cortez, covers an area of 50,000 square meters and represents an investment of over 70 million dollars. Within the three-storey building, visitors will be able to explore 19 exhibition spaces. Highlights include an oceanic fish tank with 2.5 million litres of water, as wells as a large coral tank.
A state-of-the-art new aquarium for Sinaloa
Vassilis Sklavounos is Sales & Development Director of MAT Filtration Technologies. Speaking about this project, he says:
“Knowing our strong technical and commercial competitive advantages, I was confident from day one of this tender that MAT had high chances to be awarded. My confidence was based on our delivered performance at the two previous public aquariums we had been involved in in Mexico, Michin Puebla and Michin Guadalajara as well as our project in Panama, Biomuseo.
“The integrity and our passion to maintain and exceed the expectations of our clients are what kept us apart from the competition. This will be our fourth project in Latin America and our last one before we establish MAT USA.”

As well as providing a fun day out for visitors, the New Mazatlán Aquarium will conduct research and education programmes.
Last month, MAT Filtration Technologies announced that it has formed an exclusive regional partnership with ALEC Engineering and Contracting LLC, to cover the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The company, along with its Norwegian branch MAT-KULING, provides high-efficiency equipment and services in water filtration technology, serving aquariums and zoos, water parks, swimming pools and more.
