SSA Group, an award-winning provider of visitor amenities, has announced a new partnership with the Maritime Aquarium in Connecticut, US.
As the only aquarium focused on the tidal estuary of Long Island Sound, it celebrates local creatures and explores international conservation issues. Its exhibits have been carefully curated to provide visitors with entertaining and educational animal experiences designed to instil a sense of wonder in nature.
The Maritime Aquarium describes its mission as inspiring people of all ages to appreciate and protect the Long Island Sound ecosystem and the global environment through living exhibits, marine science, and environmental education.
Planet-friendly changes
Earlier this month SSA Group took over daytime dining and catering for the venue. As a result, Maritime Aquarium’s Cascade Cafe and Sound Bites Cafe will benefit from a refreshed menu, the convenience of mobile ordering and a renewed focus on good environmental practices.
SSA Group has incorporated a range of sustainable measures including:
- Partnering with local merchants including Longford’s Ice Cream, Deep River Snacks (chips/crisps) and LesserEvil (natural snacks)
- Using reusable cutlery in the cafe, reducing waste
- Seafood Watch Program-sourced sustainable fish
- Displacement of single-use plastic bottled drinks
SSA Group’s regional vice president Eli Grill says: “We are bringing some exciting new enhancements we know guests will be excited to see.
“From sustainable seafood options to partnerships with local brands like Longford’s Ice Cream, Deep River Snacks and LesserEvil, we’re bringing fresh new flavours to the Cascade Café and Sound Bites Cafe.
“We are also integrating new ordering styles like mobile ordering to allow guests to skip the line and order from their phone when they are ready. The Maritime Aquarium is a staple to the local community and our team cannot wait to support their guests and their mission.”
Earlier this spring, the SSA Group announced plans to develop a Climate Action Plan for the firm, working with Verdis Group, a leading sustainability consultant.
