Asa Kalama

Asa Kalama is Executive, Creative & Interactive Experiences at Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development where he oversees the development of interactive experiences around the world. He also oversees projects in collaboration with Lucasfilm for Disney Parks, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones-related projects. Previously, he oversaw the creative development of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction and the Star Wars: Datapad interactive experience for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

Prior to his work on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Asa spent over a decade at Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development. With a mandate to develop new tools, technologies and techniques for The Walt Disney Company, he had the unique opportunity to contribute his talents to the Park and Resorts, Consumer Products, Interactive and Media Networks business segments. Asa also oversaw Advanced Development’s Narrative Experience Portfolio that focused on interactive storytelling and role-play.

Asa attended the University of California Los Angeles where he studied design at the school of Theater, Film, and Television. Many of his formative years prior to working with Walt Disney Imagineering were spent in darkened theaters both on and back stage; an experience in performing arts that allows Asa to bring a unique perspective to thematic storytelling.

Walt Disney Imagineering is the creative engine behind experiences found in Disney theme parks, resort hotels, cruise ships, and consumer products—including books, games, and merchandise. Imagineering’s unique strength comes from the teamwork and syntheses of creative and technical professionals representing more than 100 diverse disciplines.


Asa Kalama is an Executive Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering where he oversees the development of immersive rides and interactive attractions as well as new experiences designed to entertain guests beyond-the-berm. He recently lead the global teams behind the THEA Award winning Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and the land-wide interactive program for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.
