Danny de Man
Deputy Executive Director
European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA)
Danny de Man, deputy executive director of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, has played a key role in advancing population management, conservation, animal welfare, and institutional collaboration across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
During his time at EAZA, De Man has overseen the association’s programmes on ex situ population management and EAZA ex situ programmes (EEPs), as well as its conservation strategy and implementation across the EAZA membership. He also leads EAZA’s animal welfare and capacity-building programmes, accreditation and professional standards for member institutions, and international policy engagement.
“Danny is widely recognised within the global zoo and aquarium community for his collaborative leadership and extensive knowledge of zoo population management and conservation policy,” said one person who nominated him.
“He has represented EAZA at numerous international meetings, including multiple Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Conferences of the Parties and committee meetings, helping to ensure that the perspectives of progressive zoological institutions contribute to evidence-based conservation policy and sustainable wildlife management.”
They added: “His work has helped strengthen cooperation between regional zoo associations, governments, and conservation organisations, supporting EAZA's mission to promote excellence in animal care, conservation, education, and scientific research across its membership.”
