Wrexham's 'Museum of Two Halves' project has announced a name for the combined institution and shared a first look at the Welsh football museum.
The project includes the newly named Football Museum of Wales and Wrexham Museum, announced at a recent preview event with the Welsh government and Wrexham County Borough Council.
“Today’s visit represents a defining moment for Wales’ newest museum," said Jack Sargeant, Wales' culture minister.
"It brings together our mission for a Football Museum of Wales, a fitting home for our national football collection and ambition to deliver a destination that will inspire visitors for generations to come."
He added: "This new identity captures the pride we all feel for our football heritage and the role this museum will play in celebrating the game that unites our communities."
Due to open in summer 2026, the Football Museum of Wales will celebrate football's role in Welsh culture and community.
New museum to open summer 2026
The museum's galleries and exhibits are nearly completed, with interior fitting and gallery preparation well underway.
The project teams are now installing state-of-the-art displays, interactive elements and visitor amenities.
Exhibits will include 'Great Wales Goals', an interactive experience where people can watch and vote for their favourite goal, as well as 'The Timeline' – a case full of objects from 1876 to the present day that tell the story of the national teams.
Objects on view will include the original Wales v Scotland team sheet from 1876 (Wales’ first international game) and the cap and shirt of footballer Wyn Davies, who won 34 caps for Wales and passed away last year.

The Welsh government has awarded grants totalling almost £6 million towards the football museum since June 2023, with its total investment in the wider project exceeding £6.78m.
The museum "has been a major cultural commitment of this Welsh government", said Sargeant.
"It’s been great to see the films and content of the galleries and to hear how much communities across Wales have been involved in the creation of the museum, with real care taken to ensure the collections and displays genuinely reflect the breadth of Welsh football's cultures and histories," he added.
