Creating advocates for the planet

Centred on its landmark ‘Fixing Our Broken Planet’ initiative, the session will reveal how the NHM is moving beyond traditional education to actively create advocates for the planet.

We’ll dive into the sustainable, "fabric first" design of their new permanent gallery, the innovative 100% digital "self-build" touring model that eliminates emissions from international shipping, and the practical Climate Action Toolkit designed to empower both visitors and industry peers.

Join us to discover how science-led hope is being used to combat climate anxiety and inspire measurable action across the global attractions sector.

Meet the experts

Macdonald has delivered public-facing projects at the NHM for over 14 years as part of the museum's project management team, working on exhibitions and galleries that span the museum's vast collections and the work of its scientific researchers.

Macdonald project-managed the delivery of the Our Broken Planet temporary exhibition in 2021, and now manages the wider FOBP programme of activity.

An architect by trade, Marrero-Vasquez works closely with the head of the public space programme, providing architectural, historic building conservation, and museum design expertise and leadership, whilst continuously championing sustainable design.

Gittings has been a digital product manager at NHM since 2018, leading a small, perfectly formed team of content, design, and web developers to build Find Your Climate Action.

This event is the second in blooloop's new approach to greenloop, our conference dedicated to sustainability in the visitor attractions industry.

Since 2021, the virtual conference has hosted professionals from theme parks, museums, zoos, and more, featuring industry leaders such as the Walt Disney Company, Merlin Entertainments, the United Nations, and top climate scientists.

Following five successful events, the greenloop format is evolving to maintain the sustainability discussion throughout the year. We will host monthly webinars, providing opportunities for insights from leading experts in our industry. There will also be more chances for discussion groups, Q&As, and an online community.

The first greenloop webinar took place in March 2026, showcasing an unexpected conservation partnership with experts from Tampa Electric and The Florida Aquarium.
