ACCIONA Living & Culture, a leading creator of technology-driven interactive museums, exhibits, and events, has been selected to carry out one of New York’s most iconic museum projects: The Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx. This marks a significant step forward in ACCIONA Living & Culture’s goal to strengthen its leadership in the museum and exhibitions sector, with more initiatives planned in the USA.
The Hip Hop Museum, set to open in late 2025 in the Bronx, the genre’s birthplace, aims to preserve and celebrate Hip-Hop’s rich cultural heritage and educate a global audience about its artistic contributions. As part of this initiative, ACCIONA Living & Culture will create a vibrant space of more than 55,000 square feet that features immersive experiences, activities, and exhibitions, enabling the public to engage creatively with the subject matter.
The museum is being designed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates, an international exhibition planning and design firm headquartered in New York, and ACCIONA Living & Culture is developing and installing audiovisual elements and other technologies to engage visitors in each project.
Bringing compelling stories to life
ACCIONA Living & Culture, a division of the Spanish renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure company ACCIONA, was chosen for the projects through competitive processes, thanks to its expertise in developing culturally significant museums globally.
The Hip Hop Museum is the newest entry in the company’s portfolio, which also features the Grand Egyptian Museum, The House of European History in Brussels, The National Museum of Abu Dhabi, The Real Madrid Experience in Madrid, and the immersive Frida Kahlo experience, exhibited in five countries.
The firm will also be working on another significant New York City museum, the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Alex Manresa, US director at ACCIONA Living & Culture says: “The history of immigration through Ellis Island and the contribution of Hip Hop to world culture are two of America’s most compelling and fascinating stories, and we take huge pride in being a part of how they will be told.
“Over the past 30 years, our expert team has developed a unique approach combining creativity, technology, and innovation, underpinned by a focus on sustainability. This approach will be showcased in these two iconic museums in New York, bringing their stories to life for global audiences.”
Earlier this year, ACCIONA Living & Culture hosted the NEXT IN summit in Madrid. This gathered experts from around the world to analyse and reflect on museology and its social impact, both now and in the future.
