Holocaust Museum LA has started constructing the largest expansion in its history to double the size of its Pan Pacific Park campus.
Designed by award-winning architect Hagy Belzberg, the $50 million expansion is named the Jona Goldrich Campus.
The new facility will house outdoor reflective spaces, expansive galleries and classrooms, and a theatre for survivor talks, film screenings, concerts, conferences and public programmes.
Also, the campus will include a pavilion to house an authentic boxcar found outside the Majdanek concentration camp in Poland, and a dedicated theatre for a holographic exhibition featuring a conversation with a virtual survivor.

Holocaust Museum LA CEO Beth Kean said the institution is “digging in with its shovels and our hearts to continue building an institution dedicated to eradicating all forms of antisemitism and hate through education and enlightenment”.
“We will continue to honor both the memories of those who perished and our beloved survivors, whose courage, determination, strength and resiliency remind the world that we must never forget the critical lessons of the past,” she added.
As above, the expansion will double the museum’s current footprint and will allow it to welcome more visitors, including students.
Via a press release, the project includes new cutting-edge technology to preserve the testimonies of Holocaust survivors, as well as spaces for temporary and travelling exhibits.
New campus to double size of museum
Holocaust Museum LA is the first of its kind in the US to be founded by survivors. Its new campus is expected to be completed in 2025.
In more news, New York’s Jewish Museum – one of the largest museums dedicated to Jewish culture in the world – has named James S. Snyder as its new director.
Elsewhere, London’s Jewish museum recently announced plans to close its site in Camden indefinitely, citing “unanticipated rising costs” in a statement.
