IDEAS to co-develop new ICON Park Orlando experience

The Wheel at ICON Park, Orlando

Visitors can discover local history in a fun new way

IDEAS, a leading brand and experience design company, will announce details of a major new Orlando project at IAAPA Expo today.

The firm is one of the creative masterminds behind The Great Florida Road Trip, A Classic Vacation and Photo Travelogue with the Flamingo Family, a new upcoming family gaming attraction at The Wheel at ICON Park. Set to launch in January 2023, the new destination will take visitors back in time on a nostalgic holiday through midcentury Florida – before the state became a quintessential destination for theme parks and resorts.

This experience, which is part game and part educational opportunity, will highlight Florida’s history as an entertainment and tourist destination. Guests will be taken on a journey showcasing historic sites that have enticed travellers for decades.

Alongside Orlando-based IDEAS, the experience will be created in collaboration with Creative Amusements in Knoxville, and Steradian Technologies in Lafayette, Indiana, US.

For the new project, ICON Park has also teamed and coordinated with several tourism organisations throughout Florida and taken their input into account.

“It’s so exciting that ICON Park is going to provide this exposure to so many Florida destinations in our beautiful state,” says Visit Florida CMO Staci Mellman. “This will give Orlando visitors a taste of some of the other great experiences that our state has to offer.”

ICON Park is a 20-acre open-air entertainment attraction with plenty of family-friendly activities. Located in the centre of the Orlando Entertainment District, ICON Park features over 50 restaurants, bars, boutique stores, and must-see activities, all highlighted by The Wheel, a breathtaking observation wheel that towers 400 feet – 40 storeys – in the air. Other popular attractions onsite include SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium, Madame Tussauds Orlando, and the Museum of Illusions Orlando.

Space Coast Office of Tourism’s executive director Peter Cranis adds: “The Space Coast/Cape Canaveral is pleased to be a part of the new experience at The Wheel at ICON Park.

“With more than fifty launches this year, we’re earning our name and we hope The Wheel guests get to experience a launch while they are here in Florida. The Wheel is a technological marvel in itself and a great way to see Central Florida and learn about all the amazing things there are to do here.”

Further information about The Great Florida Road Trip will be released at IAAPA Expo today at noon in booth #3439.
