Guests can enjoy two new digital interactives: Impact Simulator and Galactic Explorer

Ideum, an experiential designer of interactive exhibits, has completed a project for the Roswell International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, where guests can now enjoy two new theme-park inspired interactive media experiences. The two digital interactives help visitors to discover NASA research and achieve footage in a fun new way.

Impact Simulator

Firstly, the museum’s new Impact Simulator gives guests a first-hand experience of the Roswell Impact Incident. Beginning in a dark room, looking at an interstellar view from the bridge of a ship, they can press the red button to trigger an immersive experience where their vessel crash-lands on Earth, while a narrator provides more information about the historical event.

The experience is supported by five 4K 86” displays, mounted in portrait edge-to-edge and combined into a single 10800×3840 viewport. A 3.1 sound system provides stereo audio and a strong subwoofer channel for deeper sound effects, while a DMX lighting system provides back illumination to the screens and serves to enhance the visual experience.

Impact Simulator uses MadMapper for its show control and the interactive was designed, integrated, and installed by Ideum’s AV specialists.

Galactic Explorer

The second interactive that the company created for the museum is a new Galactic Explorer search game, which puts visitors in the shoes of alien surveyors, allowing them to search the cosmos for signs of life. This is supported by three 65” Ideum Presenter touch displays.

With three reaches of space and two different modes of play to choose from, guests use the touch screen to find clues within a hex grid. They must discover power-ups and avoid hazards to stop their energy from being used up. Once they have found all eight clues, or run out of power, a “findings” screen is shown, which details NASA-based information about the possibilities of life beyond Earth.

“We had a blast creating these fun and unique immersive experiences for the Roswell UFO Museum and we hope they will entertain and excite visitors for years to come,” says Darold Ross, senior producer of project management at Ideum.

Earlier this year, the company also announced that it has been working on the transformation of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) at Presque Isle State Park, Erie, Pennsylvania.
