Lexington, custom design and fabrication company and part of The Companies of Nassal, has announced that its design-build project for Idaho State Museum has received multiple awards including the American Association for State and Local History’s 2019 Award of Excellence.
Lexington is pleased to announce that design-build project for the Idaho State Museum has been recognised for multiple awards. One exhibit, ‘Idaho: The Land and Its People’, received the 2019 Award of Excellence at the American Association for State and Local History’s (AASLH) Leadership in History Awards. This is the country’s most prestigious competition for achievements in state and local history.
Museum administrator Liz Hobson says, “This accolade is another representation of all the purpose, thought and research that went into not only making the Idaho State Museum an extension of Idaho’s history but an essential educational resource for all Idahoans.” The exhibit explores how the unique landscapes of Idaho have influenced the state’s shared experience.
A collaborative project
The exhibit considers four guiding principles. These are, 1) people and the land shape each other; 2) people make history, and their decisions have consequences; 3) decisions made in the past are relevant in the present, people’s decisions impact the future and 4) the story of Idaho has both a regional and a national concept.
From design and conception to installation and commissioning, the project was a collaboration between several parties. Lexington led the design-build team which consisted of Andrew Merriell and Associates, the Richard Lewis Media Group, Electrosonic, the Idaho State Historical Society staff and subject matter experts. The project also sought feedback from diverse communities throughout the state, as well as teachers, museum visitors and stakeholders.
“We’re so proud we were able to participate in the incredible renovation of the Idaho State Museum,” said Michael Shearin, Director of Design at Lexington, “There was so much passion and hard work that went into each and every exhibit, and this award is just one way that work has been recognized. The people of Idaho are also experiencing the fruits of those efforts every day, and for that we are grateful.”
The Idaho State Historical Society staff will receive the award during the 2019 AASLH Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in August.
Idaho State Museum’s exhibit ‘Big Burn’ was also recognised at the American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting and Museum Expo, winning the Silver Muse Award. Lexington commented, “Congratulations to our friends at Idaho State Museum for winning the Silver Muse Award for the ‘Big Burn’ exhibit this week during American Alliance of Museums’ AAM conference! We were proud to work with you on this incredible journey to tell the story of Idaho in unique, immersive and interactive ways.”
