Lord Cultural Resources to present at Caribbean industry conference

News
MAC Bahamas Conference 2023

Lord Cultural Resources, the world’s largest cultural professional practice, will lead a presentation at the upcoming 2023 Museums Association of the Caribbean Conference in Nassau, Bahamas.

The event, which is focused on the theme “The Power of Museums,” will provide an opportunity to network with professionals in the sector and learn about the most recent trends and best practices in March 2023.

Comm(YOU)nity Matters will be presented by Valerie Guevara, senior manager of projects and operations, and Yvonne Tang, director of visitor experience, both from the Lord Cultural Resources team. This lecture will examine how teamwork and building community are changing the ways in which cultural institutions interact with the public, impart knowledge, and function both internally and externally.

Tang and Guevara will be accompanied by representatives from other institutions around the globe, who will share their knowledge and suggestions on expanding museum communities, identifying institutional needs for transformation, fostering positive cultures, and creating scalable, accessible initiatives that fit their strengths.

“What truly started to matter was caring and belonging,” says Tang and Guevara, offering a preview of the session. “Finding, (re)connecting, and maintaining a community is of utmost importance… Museums are a hub. We are complex and interconnected. We are sustenance for learners and connectors for knowledge. So, what does this all mean and how can we accomplish this?”

Venues will include the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, the Central Bank of The Bahamas, and the University of The Bahamas. Attendees will also get the chance to meet consultant Alexandra Gooding, who was recently elected as Secretary of the MAC Board, at the conference.

Gooding adds: “The most incredible thing about MAC is the community it has built and the breadth of cultural diversity that exists within the Caribbean itself. It is impossible to not feel inspired and energised after engaging with MAC’s community or events.

“As a proud Barbadian, I am honoured to serve on MAC’s Board and Executive Committee and to work closely with so many passionate individuals as we strive to promote and advance Caribbean museums and cultural heritage.

The 2023 Museums Association of the Caribbean Conference takes place from 1–5 March 2023. Registration for the conference is now open online.

Lord Cultural Resources has also been discussing topical subjects with industry experts and personalities in its online series Culture Break, which recently completed its third season.
