National Museums Liverpool releases new trailer for Bees: a story of survival

Bees a story of survival

Bees: a story of survival is an immersive new exhibition currently in development from National Museums Liverpool (NML), in collaboration with artist and sculptor Wolfgang Buttress

NML has been successfully touring internationally for over 10 years across Europe and Asia, with previous shows including Eye for Colour, Plantastic and Victoria Treasures. Now it is working on major new touring show which will open at Liverpool’s World Museum in 2023 and will then be available to tour from 2024 onwards.

A brand new trailer for the exhibition gives more insight into the upcoming experience and has been released alongside with an updated tour brochure.

New visitor experience for hire

Bees: a story of survival blends art and science. The interactive show will connect to a live feed of bees within their hives and nests, in order to reveal new insights into their world and behaviours. A key aim of the exhibition is to show just how important these prehistoric pollinators are to our planet.

Guests will be taken on an emotional journey using state-of-the-art edge technology, with interactives and digital experiences that enable them to see, hear and feel like a bee. The message is that although many species are under threat, together we can imagine a hopeful future with bees, if we take action now.

Andrew Bullock, head of touring exhibitions at NML, says “We become more excited at every stage of the development of Bees: A story of survival and our new trailer really gives an insight into what is to come; incredible imagery taken from our own collections and wonderful soundscapes and interactives all produced through a really authentic artistic and scientific collaboration.”

Bees story of survival

National Museums Liverpool (NML) is the largest national museum group outside London in the UK. Set across seven venues in Liverpool, its collection is one of the most important and varied in Europe. It aims to tell stories in innovative ways, creating memorable experiences for visitors as they encounter science, natural history, art and antiquities.

The NML will be showcasing the new exhibition at this year’s Ecsite conference, which takes place from 2 – 4 June 2022 in Heilbronn, Germany.

Earlier this year, Bullock and Buttress spoke to blooloop about the new international touring exhibition in more detail, alongside Fiona Philpott, director of exhibitions at NML.
