The National Geographic's new Museum of Exploration in Washington, DC will extend the visitor experience via an international food hall called the Explorers Eatery.

The new F&B experience was unveiled by the National Geographic Society, a global non-profit and leading creator of live events, experiences, and travelling exhibitions.

Created as a culinary complement to the museum's experiences, the Explorers Eatery will feature five rotating food stalls with American, Italian, Moroccan, Peruvian and Vietnamese cuisines.

Covering nearly 11,000 square feet and seating up to 320 guests, the venue is designed to immerse guests in the flavours of the world.

"The Explorers Eatery embodies the global footprint of the society’s mission, offering a place for visitors to taste carefully curated dishes inspired by the diverse regions where our explorers work and lead," said Lisa Fricker, senior director of hospitality and retail at the National Geographic Society.

"Food not only tells stories and lets us experience different cultures, but it is also one of the most powerful tools for bringing people together.

"By sharing these globally inspired dishes, we hope visitors will feel the communal spirit of exploration that defines the National Geographic Society."

Sustainability was considered throughout the venue, which will offer reusable cups, dinnerware and cutlery, and local and organically sourced ingredients.

The menus at the Explorers Eatery were developed in collaboration with food and beverage partner Levy.

A highlight in the F&B outlet is the Ballard Bar, named after National Geographic Explorer-at-Large Bob Ballard.

Ballard is known for his historic discoveries of hydrothermal vents, the Titanic, the German battleship Bismarck, President Kennedy’s PT-109, and numerous other shipwrecks.

"Exploration has shaped my life, and being part of Explorers Eatery is a great honor," said Ballard.

"I look forward to visiting, sharing stories and inspiring folks to join the society in protecting the wonder of our world."

The Museum of Exploration, due to open in summer 2026, will also host trivia nights, film screenings, talks and performances within the Explorers Eatery.
