Roanoke County Develops Explore Park: RPF Issued for Aerial Adventure Course Suppliers

Roanoke County has issued an request for proposals to develop a 1,100 acre Explore Park as part of their 15 to 20 year Adventure Plan.

The ambition is for Explore Park to become the region’s premiere outdoor adventure-based tourist destination.  Activities will include kayaking, walking and cycling trails, zip line/aerial park, a bike skills park, an equestrian area and event facilities as well as food, retail and overnight accommodation.

Roanoke County is requesting proposals from adventure recreation companies and service providers to build and operate amenities including:

  • Aerial Adventure Course
  • Overnight Accommodations
  • Food, Beverage, Gas & Retail Services
  • Programs, Amenities & Special Event Services

In a statement Doug Blount, Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director said, “After extensive public input, we’re ready to begin the next phase of development at Explore Park. I’m highly encouraged by the support we’ve received so far from local and regional partners. We look forward to forging new relationships with interested vendors to make the community’s vision for the park a reality.”

Proposals will be accepted through Thursday, May 17 at the Roanoke County Purchasing Office – PO Box 29800 5204 Bernard Drive SW, Suite 300F, Roanoke, VA 24018.
