The brand will be further developed working with key partners in the UK

Sega Amusements International, a leading provider of innovative and immersive amusements, has announced the acquisition of an FEC and amusement arcade brand in the UK.

Paul Williams, Sega Amusements International CEO, states that FunBox Entertainment UK Ltd has been acquired with immediate effect from US-based Village Holdings LLC.

A FunBox location recently opened at Gravity Wandsworth in London, and another is set to open in Liverpool city centre this autumn. A further London site is already being planned for the Westfield Stratford shopping complex.

Long-term relationship

Currently operated by Matthew Deith and supported by Albert Corrigan within the Gravity brand, the three industry names have combined to form Urban Fun Ltd, which will act as a holding company to incorporate both FunBox Entertainment UK and its German sister company FunBox Gmbh. Williams will become CEO, with the assistance of Deith as managing director, and Corrigan as operations director.

Williams says: “I have known Matthew for almost twenty-seven years, dating back to when his father Bob Deith employed me at SegaWorld at the Trocadero [in London]. Matthew and Albert have created a first-class operation and continue to exceed the expectations of the UK customer – I am excited and delighted to be able to work with and support them. We have exciting new ventures underway, and we look forward to officially announcing them soon.”

Fusing fun with technology

A core part of the FunBox experience is provided by GamerGreen, a digital redemption company that offers an extensive online store for game players. Customers can select prizes using their phone, computer or a self-service kiosk, resulting in prizes delivered straight to players’ homes courtesy of Amazon Prime. GamerGreen will continue to develop as an owned subsidiary and part of FunBox.

Deith adds: “I am looking forward to the prospect of working alongside Paul and the synergies that this relationship will produce. As partners, we will grow the business rapidly continuing to lead the industry in both innovation and technology.”

Sega Amusements recently announced a series of internal promotions including a new manufacturing director and sales director.
