Panasonic Connect, a leading audiovisual technology provider, has announced that it will be taking part in this year’s BEYOND Conference, an annual conference for thinkers, makers, investors and researchers across the creative industries, exploring the relationship between creative research and business innovation.

BEYOND 2023 takes place from 21 – 22 November at London’s Royal Institution and Panasonic’s Chad Kunimoto, global business development manager, themed entertainment, will speak about how the company collaborates with creators in the UK and around the world through its XR lab.

Co-creation: introducing the Panasonic XR Lab

This session, entitled Panasonic XR Lab: Japan Immersive Technology R&D, takes place on Tuesday 21 November.

Kunimoto will introduce the Panasonic XR Lab in Tokyo, which is a big co-creation space that uses hardware and technologies including holograms, spherical mapping, AR and VR, working with creators and commercial clients on R&D for immersive experiences. She will explain how Panasonic works with designers and artists, and how new technology is being used in these collaborations.

Kunimoto explains it’s not just about selling the box, or the product: “We understand what this industry wants. The story does not come to life with just a box, the products are just the tools to deliver the story. The best experience the guests can have is when they can’t even see the equipment delivering it. The thing the industry needs and expects of us is to incorporate the digital transformation to bring never-before-seen immersive experiences to their guests: they need creative technology.

“That’s why we built up our XR lab to co-create new ideas with our partners (creators/ creative designers, attraction designers, and so on). Then we can check and adjust together until they are satisfied. We work together to find the sweet spot between the eccentric ideas from the creative team and practical solutions to realize that idea from our tech innovator’s viewpoint.”

Earlier this year, Panasonic Connect explained how it supplied 15 Panasonic 1-Chip DL 4K laser projectors and nearly 50 4K interactive displays for the official Game of Thrones Studio Tour at Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland.
