SPREE Interactive Hubraum Tech Incubator

The attractions specialist beat other entries from around the world in bid to develop new technologies

SPREE Interactive, a leading provider of active free-roam VR experiences, has announced its intention to enter the Augmented Reality (AR) market following the recent announcement of a bumper year for the company.

This follows news of SPREE Interactive’s participation in the Deutsche Telekom Tech Incubator, part of hubraum and Qualcomm’s SPACES programme. The latter firm will invest approximately $100 million into metaverse technologies, including AR.

Hand-picked for potential

Of hundreds of international companies that applied, award-winning SPREE Interactive is one of just seventeen to be selected for “Snapdragon Spaces”.

The joint Deutsche Telekom and Qualcomm Augmented Reality Program is designed to drive the growth of the metaverse environment with leading extended reality (XR) companies. The accredited Snapdragon Spaces program provides organisations with access to cutting-edge technology including premium-quality AR glasses, exclusive business networking, and potential funding opportunities for innovative ideas with the most potential.

As the only Snapdragon Spaces participant to be based in the Location-Based Entertainment sector, the firm plans to utilise hubraum’s trust to develop a selection of new products with AR technology. The German-based developers of sensor fusion XR technology plan to then commercialise AR into future product offerings for FECs and attractions. The firm plans to announce information on specific projects soon.

Excitement from the jury

One of the jury, Deutsche Telekom’s product manager for XR and consumer IoT Jan Speich said: “The pitch from SPREE Interactive revealed that XR is much more than just transferring existing use cases into 3D form. I was blown away by the pitches which focused on the company’s product and put less emphasis on financial figures.

“I am most excited about getting real hands-on demos in a couple of months – I’m especially looking forward to trying out the theme park entertainment experience from SPREE Interactive.”

The firm recently provided its first multi-platform VR venue in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, designed to appeal to the whole family including younger children.
