Set to open in 2024, The London Resort won’t just be a world-class leisure destination, says CEO PY Gerbeau. “It will also be one of the most sustainable theme parks on the planet.”
The as-yet-unnamed theme park that will anchor phase I of the multi-billion pound project will feature six themed lands. These will be the High Street, Starport, The Jungle, The Isles, The Kingdom, The Woods and The Studio. Immersive, interactive technologies will feature in attractions containing intellectual property from Paramount Pictures, the BBC and ITV. As part of a partnership with EDF Energy, the resort has a net zero emissions goal.
Following a public consultation that ended in September, construction is due to begin in 2022. A second gate theme park is planned for 2029 – making it Europe’s fourth twin gate resort and the first on British soil.
A former Vice-President of Operations at Disneyland Paris, Gerbeau made his name in the UK when he transformed the fortunes of the Millennium Dome back in 2000. He went on to found the indoor ski slope operator X-Leisure.
