German strawberry jam maker Karls has expanded into the attractions business in recent years with the Karls Erlebnis-Dorf theme parks. Karls Erlebnis-Dorf, which translates to Karl’s Experience Village, takes its name from Robert Dahl’s father Karl and grandfather Karl-Heinz. Dahl is a pioneer in agritourism, as the German attractions function as a showcase for the jam manufacturer. The smell of strawberry preserves wafts across the venue and encourages visitors to leave with a jar of their own.
There are several Karls experiences across Germany. The Karls attraction in Elstal, outside Berlin, opened the first Karls roller coaster in 2018, a potato-themed attraction called K2. The Karls Erlebnis-Dorf site in Rövershagen near Rostock followed with the opening of its first coaster. K2 is part of a wider ‘Potato Adventure World’ area, which includes a karting circuit, climbing wall, indoor playground and restaurant.
