Disney has shared a new on-ride POV video of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the Princess and the Frog-themed replacement for Splash Mountain, which will open at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida on 28 June.
The reimagined ride uses the flume and framework of the original Splash Mountain attraction but now features a new storyline with characters from The Princess and the Frog, Disney’s last traditionally animated film.
Guests will accompany Princess Tiana on a boat ride through the bayou as she prepares to throw a Mardi Gras celebration. The ride includes both original music and well-known songs from the animated film.
Film’s stars reprise their roles
In addition to experiencing a 50-foot drop, riders will interact with a variety of critters and musical frogs specially made for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Disney recently unveiled the ride’s newest Tiana animatronic. Dozens of brand-new animatronic figurines made by Walt Disney Imagineering will accompany her.
The film’s stars are reprising their roles for the attraction. These include Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, and Anika Noni Rose as Tiana.
“Tiana’s Bayou Adventure builds on the story of Princess Tiana, a character whose pride and perseverance reminds us of a universal truth: within us lies the potential to make our dreams come true,” said Carmen Smith, senior vice president of creative development at Walt Disney Imagineering.
In September, Disneyland opened Tiana’s Palace, a new eatery inspired by The Princess and the Frog and based on Tiana’s dream restaurant in the film.
Disney has announced plans to invest $60 billion in its experiences division, of which $30 billion will go towards its theme parks over the next ten years. The $1.9 billion DisneylandForward project and a substantial Magic Kingdom expansion are included in the $30 billion.
